aerospaceHV offers an insulation evaluation service
It is often difficult to compare the data provided by manufacturers given the different test methods that are available and, in some cases, the lack of standardisation. As a result, aerospaceHV in certain circumstances offers a discounted insulation evaluation service whereby a company can submit insulation samples for analysis. We carry out a standard range of tests on the insulation samples and provide a report to the supplier of the sample. We retain a copy of the test results and add these to our database of insulation materials, improving our ability to identify the optimum insulation system for specific applications.
We are able to test thicker insulation of the form used in cables and/or insulation sheet materials as well as samples of machine insulation but have some restrictions on the maximum test voltages available to us in the laboratory.
If we do not have this material in our database, we can likely offer discounted test rates. For machine insulation we would typically need a wire length of 20m for a complete evaluation.
If you have samples of insulation you would like to submit for analysis, please contact us with details of the insulation to be tested.
The tests we can carry out will depend on the materials supplied but as an illustration, materials used in electrical machines will usually be assessed as follows:
Measurement of insulation permittivity and dielectric loss angle between 1000Hz and 300kHz at a range of temperatures
Insulation thickness (evaluated at different locations around the periphery of the wire)
Partial discharge inception voltage (measured at a range of pressures)
Breakdown voltage (under 50Hz AC voltage)
Loss in insulation thickness following a 1000h test at the class temperature + 20oC
Electrical endurance at 1000Hz / 70 oC (three data points at different voltages)
