About Us

Background

aerospaceHV was jointly founded in 2018 by Ian Cotton (Technical Director) and David Chambers (Managing Director) in response to the growing needs of the aerospace sector as they develop higher voltage power dense electrical sectors. Our intention is to be more than a test house that delivers results with little understanding of their meaning– our test results are typically provided with a narrative that provides further discussion of the importance of the result and the proposed actions that the company should take in response to it. Our knowledge is informed by our work on a number of standards committees and the part-time position Ian holds as Professor of High voltage Technology at The University of Manchester.

Since our creation, we have worked with a diverse range of companies with our existing portfolio of work being spread across a range of sectors but centred on aerospace and automotive applications. There is considerable synergy between these application areas with many common challenges such as the low air density seen by the electrical systems when they operate at altitude.

We believe we have created a portfolio of test equipment that is truly at the cutting-edge and when combined with the technical abilities of our staff allows us to explore new opportunities that in turn can revolutionise the design and operation of high voltage electrical systems. We are passionate about the work that we do and respect the limitations of our knowledge, reaching out to other companies / academia when required to deliver the work required by our clients.

We are based in Manchester Science Park and have recently moved into new premises that have significantly enhanced our laboratory capability. Our proximity to The University of Manchester allows us to access a diverse set of specialist test equipment including that based at the national Royce Institute for Advanced Materials. A high proportion of our staff are also drawn from the University including a number of part-time employees.
